Introduction to the Women Build

For the last several years, we have participated in the Women Build Program of Habitat for Humanity International. It is a unique opportunity for women and women organizations to work together to provide a decent affordable house for a deserving family.

Women Build 2006

This year's Women Build site is scheduled to start on April 24th and is scheduled to be dedicated on Mother's Day, May 14th. In previous years, the Women Build Houses have been build during week-long blitzes. With a blitz, work starts on a Saturday with just a slab and is completed by the next Saturday, with dedication the next Sunday.

The house will be constructed at 1102 1/2 F Avenue in the Douglass Community in Plano, Texas.

Patti Fisk has been named as 2006 Women Build Chairperson and Stephanie Everett has been named as House Construction Leader.

This year, we will be working on the site over several long weekends with a break between.

Looking for Sponsors for 2006 Women Build

Before we can start constructing a house, we need:

  • Land on which to build the house.
  • A qualified, deserving, family for who to build the house, and
  • The money to purchase goods and services for the house.

We are actively seeking additional partners to help fund this house. Some firms actually provide goods and services for the house.

As our donors of both financial and in-kind contributions are identified, we will post them here with links to their websites. It is our hope that viewers of this website will show their appreciation by patronizing these firms.

Some of these donors include:

  • Again this year, Lowe's' Hardware will provide hardware and building supplies at as discount as well as provide hands-on building skills training.

Build Schedule

This year, instead of a one week “blitz” build, the 2006 Women Build will use a speed build schedule. Below are the dates for the build.

  • Pre-Blitz April 8 and April 22 – for crew chiefs and experienced volunteers only
  • Phase 1: April 27 - April 30 – for all volunteers
  • Phase 2: May 4 – May 7 – for all volunteers
  • Post Blitz: May 12
  • If you are interest in helping the 2006 Women Build become a reality, please contact our 2006 Women Build Volunteer Coordinator, Patsy Edney at 214-914-3620 or patsy_edney@yahoo.com

For a copy of the Volunteer Liability Release Form click here. This form is required to be completed and signed before you can work on one of our Habitat construction sites. If a youth is under 18, a parent or guardian must cosign the form.
