11TH STREET DEVELOPMENT
 
Habitat purchased some Plano Housing Authority property on 11th Street just off of 75 Central Expressway.  This new 11th Street Development next to the Douglass Community in Plano will allow Habitat to transform 6 sixty-year old Plano Housing Authority residences into 10 beautiful new Habitat homes.  These 6 dilapidated buildings have been vacant for a half dozen years and are real eye soars for the community, well they use to be. In late January 2012, all were demolished.
 
This project means 10 new properties on the Collin County Property Tax role, but more importantly pride in the community and home-ownership for 10 deserving families.  These affordable homes will help families break the cycle of poverty housing by providing family stability, educational improvement and permanency of residence.  The families lives will be more stable and are less prone to problems that are exacerbated and repeated by living in substandard housing.
 
We are planning to begin framing the first house in mid April and begin framing another every 3-4 weeks.

• If you or your organization would like to get involved and become a house sponsor for the Women Build 2012, either through funding or in-kind donations of materials or services.

• If you would like to volunteer your time and talents, we need construction volunteers to help build the house as well as logistics support in the hosting, caring and feeding of the build volunteers.
