Habitat South Collin County Builds 50th House With the temperature in the mid-20's South Collin County Habitat for Humanity celebrated the construction of our 50th house on January 9th. The house will be built at 1105 G Ave, in Plano's historic Douglass Community for Jasmine Anderson and her family. Volunteers, city leaders, and members of the community heard from Habitat board members both past and present, who recounted HfHSCC's success since its inception. ![]() ![]() City Council members Pat Miner and Ben Harris, several key city officials, and long time Habitat supporters braved the chilly weather to take part in this milestone and to watch the demolition of a structure at the 1105 G Ave site. The event began with a devotional by Arthur Young. Past Habitat board president, James Donaldson and long time houseleader and crew chief Joe Parlin were on hand to talk about the affiliates beginning. Current board president Patti Fisk spoke of HfHSCC's growth over the past several years, while board member Lisa Barrentine talked about Habitat for Humanity of South Collin County's 50/50/50 campaign. This campaign highlights the 50 homes HfHSCC will have built since 1998 and the 50 homes that we plan to build in less than half the time.
Mattie Brooks, long time Habitat homeowner spoke of her blessed life and the role that Habitat SCC has played in it. Mattie along with Habitat homeowners Alana Howard and Alicia Capelo and several HfHSCC board members and staff welcomed Jasmine to the Habitat family.
The event came to a close as Plano Mayor Phil Dyer and Habitat SCC Construction Director Kenny Nall climbed aboard a bulldozer and knocked the existing structure to the ground. Construction of the Anderson family's home will begin on February 20th and continue through mid May. Following the event a reception was held at the Douglass Community Center.
