Cotton Belt Groundbreaking
![]() Thursday, July 29, 2010 marked the beginning of Habitat South Collin County’s largest project to date. Following over 8 months of preparation HfHSCC broke ground on "The Courts at Cotton Belt". The Courts at Cotton Belt will consist of six duplexes located at the corner of Fleming and Cotton Belt in Wylie. To celebrate this milestone along with Habitat-SCC were representatives from the City of Wylie, Inwood National Bank, and Samsung Telecommunications America. City of Wylie Mayor Eric Hogue, Inwood Branch President Marvin Fuller, and Samsung Senior Director Scot Poorman all spoke of the need for affordable housing and the partnerships that make projects such as this possible. Turning the dirt with Mayor Hogue, Fuller and Poorman were Wylie City Manager and HfHSCC Board Vice President Mindy Manson, HfHSCC Executive Director Dick Taylor and HfHSCC Construction Director Kenny Nall. Construction of the first unit, sponsored by Samsung, will begin August 14th. This will be Samsung's fourth build with HfHSCC and their first in Wylie. In March of 2010 Samsung pledged of $400,000 over the next four years to Habitat-SCC's 50/50/50 campaign. The campaign marks HfHSCC's milestone of building 50 homes since 1998 and its plans to build 50 more in less than 50% of the time. To date Habitat-SCC has built 52 homes including 6 in Wylie. Samsung's pledge will go towards The Courts at Cotton Belt and other Habitat-SCC programs and projects. |
