A Message From the Executive Director

Dick TaylorLast August our Habitat family of volunteers, Board of Directors and staff met for barbeque and fellowship at the Collin County Association of Realtors’ banquet hall.

We took a moment to review our past and to talk about the future. Our ministry is growing with the involvement of over 3,000 volunteers who now build 9 homes annually.

Because of this growth, Habitat for Humanity of South Collin County is in a position to do more. We have committed to partner with more families and more communities in making significant lifelong changes for our families and the volunteers who wish to partner with them.

Homeownership for hard working, low income families can be a reality even in an affluent county. Our next four families who will soon own their homes are all hardworking citizens – with good track records and job stability. They will benefit greatly by living closer to work while being able to afford a mortgage payment. These families work in our stores, our schools and many of them work for local hospitals and physicians who at any time will be serving all of us!

Land is our challenge. Affordable land to build homes or multifamily units is our critical need. Habitat homes are changing all across the country to meet community standards while still remaining true to our mission of providing affordable shelter to those who can’t afford to buy a home in the conventional market.

If your organization, church or company is interested in partnering with Habitat – please feel free to call either myself or Jill Smola at 972.398.0634.

Going Green in Plano and South Collin County

Everyone feels the sting of higher energy costs at the gas pump and especially when the monthly utility bill arrives. A dramatic increase in any cost of living can undermine a working family’s desire to move ahead and provide a stable home environment for their children.

Habitat for Humanity of South Collin County has introduced new technologies and innovative strategies for the worksites where it builds. Decreasing the cost of energy in a new home insures that a family’s paycheck can go further, with a mortgage payment that is not threatened.  Read more.
